How to Get a Letter from Santa (5 Ways, Free and Paid)

Five ways to get your child a letter from Santa this year: USPS Operation Santa, Canada Post, the North Pole, Alaska postmark, writing it yourself, or a personalized letter.

1. Write to Santa through USPS Operation Santa (free)

The U.S. Postal Service runs Operation Santa every holiday season. Children write to Santa Claus, 123 Elf Road, North Pole, 88888. Some letters are adopted by volunteers who answer them and send gifts. It is wonderful, but a reply is not guaranteed. Check usps.com for this year's dates.

2. Canada Post's Santa letter program (free)

Canada Post answers letters addressed to Santa Claus, North Pole, H0H 0H0, Canada, and families outside Canada often use it too. Mail early; letters must arrive by Canada Post's mid-December cutoff.

3. A real North Pole postmark

The USPS office in Anchorage offers a holiday postmark from North Pole, Alaska. You write the letter, put it in a stamped envelope addressed to your child, and mail it inside a larger envelope to the Anchorage postmark program. Search "North Pole Alaska postmark USPS" for the current address and deadline.

4. Write it yourself

Free and personal: use red or gold ink, mention one specific good thing your child did this year, a sibling or pet by name, and something to keep working on. See our guide what to write in a letter from Santa.

5. A personalized letter, ready the same day

If December is busy, SantasNote writes a one-page letter from Santa using your child's name, age, town, wins and wishes, plus a Nice List certificate. It's a printable PDF you can put in an envelope or under the tree.

Questions

When should a letter from Santa arrive?

Most families give it between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. A printable letter can be used any day, including Christmas morning.

Is the USPS reply guaranteed?

No. Operation Santa depends on volunteers adopting letters, so not every child gets a reply. If a reply matters, write one yourself or use a personalized letter.
